Brazil HOLIDAYS

Taking a holiday in Brazil or a Brazil honeymoon is one of the unique South American holiday experiences. Considered by Brazilians to be a continent in its own right, is a land well versed in extremes. It is the fifth largest country in the world, covering more than half of South America and has a geographic diversity like nowhere else. What makes Brazil so special though are its people; welcoming, genuinely friendly and charismatic, they make their country one of the best in South America.

OUR FAVOURITE THINGS TO DO IN Brazil

WILDLIFE SPOTTING

Brazil has two places for spotting wildlife; the Amazon and the Pantanal and we think the Pantanal is the better of the two.  This is a wetland area, where from May to November the water disperses, leaving small pools of water where the fish are trapped which in turn attracts large numbers of migratory birds as well as jaguars.

CITIES

Brazil contains the most iconic city of the Americas, Rio de Janeiro.  But also worth exploring is the colonial city of Salvador in the north of the country. Salvador has a small colonial area called Pelourinho, an area lined with churches and colourful colonial buildings

WATERFALLS

You cannot visit Brazil without seeing the incredible Iguazu Falls; 270 waterfalls in a 1 square mile area, which you can see from the walkways at various levels, helicopters to see them from above, speedboat rides from below and train rides from the side.  As if this was not enough, they are surrounded by pristine jungle and an abundance of wildlife.

REMOTE WALKS

If you head 5 hours inland from Salvador, you come across an unexpected land. A part of the country which contains flat top mountains, waterfalls and sleepy towns still caught in colonial times.  Here the walking is diverse and scenically stunning. This is Chapada Diamantina National Park.

BEACHES

If you are after a beach holiday, then look no further than Brazil.  Its enormous coastline offers the most diverse beaches you will find anywhere in the world.  There is the remote, the long and empty, the one dotted with hip surfing towns, ones back by huge sand dunes, city beaches…need we go on?

HONEYMOON

Brazil’s beaches are the best in South America, making it the perfect destination for relaxing after your wedding.  On top of this there are some world class hotels to stay in such as Ponta Dos Ganchos or the remote Kiaroa hotel.  There is also small and chic and places such as Pipa and Trancoso are not to be ignored.

MAP OF Brazil

Will definitely be recommending this trip to people and the excellent service provided by Latin Odyssey. Thank you for a memorable trip!

SELECT THE MONTH YOU WANT TO TRAVEL

Due to its size there are various times of year which are best to see the country as you will find small micro climates throughout. Iguazu and Rio can be visited all year round though

The rainy season in the south of the country and in the Amazon is from December to April when you can expect heavy downfalls, though this is when it is warmest.  During these months the north east of the country is hot and humid but much drier.

The Pantanal is still flooded during these months, which can make it difficult to get in and out, but not impossible. Water is beginning to build leaving isolated areas of high ground, which in turn attracts migratory birds as well the larger animals

From May to Jun the country is generally dry and cool with the north east being much warmer but also having a small rainy season from March to May.  In the south of the country temperatures during the day average 20 C but inland and to the north of Rio they will reach the mid to high twenties with a little more humidity.

This is the start of the season in the Pantanal and as such it may still be flooded, which can make it difficult to get in and out, but not impossible. Generally, an excellent time to visit the whole of Brazil as the rains have not yet arrived and the temperatures are getting warmer.

AN OVERVIEW OF Brazil

Rio de Janeiro with its famous beaches remains one of the most seductive cities in the world.  No visit to this bustling city is complete without seeing both the Sugarloaf and Corcovado mountains, which offer a different perspective of this majestic city.

Lying 250km to the south of Rio is Paraty, a small colonial town, designed to flood during high tide, it gives the appearance of a town submerged.  A great escape from the city, this quaint town has 65 islands and numerous beaches ideal for unwinding.

The majestic Iguacu Falls are a collection of 287 waterfalls that form the borders of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay and are unrivalled for sheer beauty.

The Amazon River is the longest, widest river, with the greatest volume of water, in the world. The mighty Amazon basin is a maze of waterways and lagoons, which can be visited by boat or alternatively from a lodge.  In the centre lies Manaus, the capital of the region and at one time was the most prosperous on the continent.

Brazil’s north east coast contains pristine beaches and with year round good weather this is the destination for water sports and relaxation.  The national park island of Fernando de Noronha situated off the coats of Recife is an untouched paradise.  The island contains 26 beaches, one of which was voted the best in Brazil, along with numerous walking trails and superb snorkelling and diving opportunities.

The city of Salvador however is the heartbeat of the region, with an African influence, colonial architecture and coupled with Brazilian flair makes it a unique cultural experience.
