WHERE TO GO WHEN

One of the most common questions we are asked is “When is the best time to visit….?” or “Where do you think we should go in say March?”, so the below month by month guide to Latin America will hopefully give you some ideas.

As a general rule Central America is best visited between December and May whilst South America can be split into two, with the ‘central’ countries; Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Galapagos as well as northern Chile & Argentina best visited between April and September.  The far south of the continent such as Patagonia is best between October and March, whilst Brazil is so large you can go anytime!

The perfect time to be visiting anywhere in Central America. This is also the height of the season in Patagonia (the far south of Chile and Argentina) where clear skies will give you the best views.  You will find warner weather in the central parts of both Chile and Argentina, but expect rains in the north.  In Brazil it is hot and humid, with some torrential downpours as well. Expect rain the Galapagos.

Perfect in the Galapagos and it’s the start of the season in Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador so expect fewer travellers and the occasional bit of rain
The start of the rainy season in Central America, but you could just get away with it.  It is now the ski season in the central parts of both Chile and Argentina, though perfect for visiting the far north of both countries.  In Brazil expect cooler temperatures, especially in the south, but clear skies. The perfect time to be in the Galapagos, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador
The height of the season in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and the Galapagos. Brazil is generally cooler now, but its beaches in the far north still have warm weather and it’s the best time to be in the Pantanal. Excellent time for the northern parts of both Argentina and Chile, where you can access some of the lesser visited areas such as Salta and still go wine tasting.

October sees the transition of the seasons in South America. Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia may experience some rain, especially towards the end of the month.  Still a good time for the northern parts of both Argentina and Chile, whilst this is the start of the season in Patagonia, so expect some cloudy days, but a time when all the Andean peaks still have snow on making it photographically perfect.
