Brazilian Wildlife

Brazil is home to two of the best areas for wildlife; the Pantanal and the Amazon.  The Pantanal is best described as a small window of Africa in the heart of South America and although it does not have the ‘big five’ it does have its own unique fauna.  The Amazon is an atmospheric place where you will always hear more than you see due to the density of the foliage but where the small things take priority.
Brazil’s greatest asset is the number of migratory birds and this is best seen in the Pantanal.  Here you will find over 656 species of birds during the summer months, approximately 40% of which are migratory. It is also one of the best places to see the elusive jaguar and there are specific jaguar tracking excursions which can be arranged.

The Amazon is home to so many different varieties of flora and fauna that we can’t even begin to list them.  It is a place where fishing for piranha and spotting pink river dolphins goes hand in hand.  Nocturnal walks are a real highlight here and a chance to spot the smaller insects and bizarre creatures that inhabit the night.
The Pantanal is best described as a small window of Africa in the heart of South America, without the big game!  It is considered to be the world’s biggest wetland area, located in the heart of Brazil, it is a wildlife heaven
The Amazon River is the longest, widest river, with the greatest volume of water, in the world. Brazil’s mighty Amazon basin is formed from the water collected from 8 different countries, from as far south as Bolivia to as far north as Venezuela.  From its source in the Peruvian Andes, it has a journey of some 6,762 km to the mouth of the Atlantic Ocean, where fresh water can still be tasted 100 km out to sea!
