The coffee zone is a geographic area that comprises of three Colombian departments: Caldas, Risaralda and Quindío; with their respective capital cities of Manizales, Pereira and Armenia. The departments have many things in common including a coffee culture, the pre-Columbian legacy that runs deeper than the Spanish legacy

OUR FAVOURITE THINGS TO DO IN THE COFFEE TRIANGLE

HOT AIR BALLOON

This is the ultimate experience in the coffee region – flying in a Hot Air Balloon. The day starts early as this is when the most appropriate weather conditions occur. You will help in inflating the balloon, whilst of course drinking some local coffee along with some typical pastries from the region

COFFEE TASTING

This half day visit take in the coffee plantations along the steep hills which are typical of the area. You will visit Hacienda San Alberto one of the coffee estates in the region which includes an insight into; preparation, toasting, the characteristics and the properties that allows for such a variety of coffees in the world

FRUIT TASTING

For the fruit lovers this is a very healthy and different experience. Enjoy an amazing variety of typical fruit from Colombia, in the beautiful courtyard of Hotel Sazagua. Colombia is known for its great variety of fruits, due to the country’s climate and you will try strange; shapes, colours and flavours.

CACAO EXPERIENCE

This full day tour visits some of the regions most beautiful scenery with picture postcard landscapes, rolling green hills, Colonial villages and of course a visit to a cacao plantation. You will learn about the entire process of cacao cultivation and will have the opportunity to toast and grind your own seeds

BASKET WORKSHOP

Transfer to the traditional town of Filandia to enjoy a tour of its picturesque colonial houses, the Plaza de Bolivar and its craft workshops, especially the basket workshop where you will have an authentic basketry experience

ORCHIDS FARM

This half day visit to Finca Romelia, located just outside of La Cabaña – close to Manizales, allows you to observe their wonderful collection of orchids. The owners, José and Maria have dedicated the vast majority of their lives to the agriculture
