Panama City
Founded in 1519 Panama City is the oldest Spanish settlement on the mainland of the Americas. It is also without doubt the most exciting and cosmopolitan capital city on the isthmus. The soaring glass skyscrapers are evidence of the vibrancy of the economy – there is a seemingly endless supply of investment from abroad. And the city has an infectious energy which is driven by the optimism and rich cultural brew of the Panamanian people. Long overshadowed by the Panama Canal, this city has now been given new life and is forging a new reputation for itself as a destination in its own right.
The shimmering skyline of the commercial centre is in sharp contrast to the dilapidated Spanish colonial charm of the buildings of Casco Viejo – the old part of the city. This was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and ongoing restorations on the plaza’s and cobbled streets began a few years ago. Now you find that many of the grand old houses are revitalised and proudly stand like the masterpieces they once were in the 19thcentury. Visiting now is recommended as the charm lies in the intriguing mix of crumbling facades and shiny new paint.
The stylish Panamanians love to eat out and there is a wealth of sophisticated restaurants and café’s to choose from. Casco Viejo has some superb establishments but you can also find everything from Sushi to Spanish tapas to Italian pasta’s in the areas of the Causeway, La Exposicion and Bella Vista. It is important to point out that Panama City is now one of Latin America's safest cities and with such a fascinating history, a setting of undeniable natural beauty and a wealth of entertainment on offer some would say Panama city has it all. Historical quarter. Falling in love with Panama is as easy as dining under the stars in the Plaza Bolivar in Casco Viejo Eating. Visit the city's Metropolitan Park, the protected home of more than 200 species of birds, mammals, and reptiles. The Panama canal. Soberania national park. . Visit Parque National Soberania – just 30 minutes from the city this is one of the most accessible tropical rainforest areas in Panama with excellent hiking and birding

Originally built in 1893, this is a beautifully restored Spanish colonial house in the most desirable location in the city - Casco Antiguo. It is a very intimate hotel with just three bedrooms and nothing is too much trouble for the wonderful staff here.
