Sofitel Santa Clara

The Santa Clara was built in 1621 as a convent for the Nuns, though it still retains all of its colonial style and most of the building’s original features remain. The hotel blends all of the past with tropical plants that are a common feature throughout the hotel, giving it that wonderful relaxed atmosphere. The hotel also boasts the largest swimming pool in the historical centre!

The historical structure has of course lent itself attractively to the room’s design. All have those high ceilings, the sort you get in large Georgian mansions and are adorned with Colombian furnishings, interweaved with the local colourful character.

The 139 rooms are split between the colonial area in the traditional convent building, and the republican area in the converted hospital. All come with white washed walls, wooden flooring and private balconies. You get a little more space when you go from their entry level room (Classic room with 345 2q ft) to their superior room (366 square feet) and the cost difference is worth the jump. Next step up are their luxury rooms, which are larger still and then their junior suites and suites, which are on the top floor, overlooking the pool to maximise views of the Caribbean.
