Laguna Lodge is a luxury, boutique hotel on the shores of Lake Atitlan close to the village of St Cruz. The hotel is in fact located on a large private area of land called the Tzantizotz Nature Reserve and the hotel is operated with a strong focus on sustainable travel. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and with balconies that offer wonderful views across the lake to the San Pedro and Atitlan Volcanoes.

THE DETAIL

We always applaud a hotel that is green and this hotel is well and truly in this category. The Laguna Lodge aims to integrate sustainable environmental and socially responsible business practices to protect and contribute to the cultural and biological diversity of Lake Atitlan in order to preserve the national forests and to minimise the effect on global warming.

To this extent they have low wattage bulbs, solar garden lights, solar security lights, solar lighting for rooms and solar hot water heating with electric and gas back up. Non toxic biodegradable phosphate and chlorine free detergents and natural cleaning agents are used throughout the lodge, whilst the Spa pool is cleansed with copper and natural minerals.

The 7 rooms are tastefully decorated and the internal décor is all local.  They have been commissioned or have been supplied with antiques, carvings, wooden furnishings, intricate weavings, and paintings, which gives not only the rooms, but the whole hotel a wonderfully natural feel.
