Chaa Creek

The Cayo District

Unquestionably the best lodge option in the region.  Situated a 30 minute drive outside of the town, the lodge has access to all the main attractions in the area, yet is pleasingly far enough away from it all to feel like you are in the middle of the jungle.  Chaa Creek started nearly 20 years ago by Mick and Lucy Fleming who decided to build a cabana for their friends to stay and from these small beginnings they have grown Chaa Creek into a 24 cabana property that it is rustic yet elegant and it is still managed by them today.

THE DETAIL

The 6 different room types all have en-suite facilities with ceiling fans and are made from local wood whilst the thatched roofs come from the local trees.  The rooms have beautiful local décor and stunning colours and carved items of wood are placed throughout.

The bathrooms are the standard you would expect of such a luxurious property with tiled floors, his and her shower heads twin basins and most have an outdoor shower as well (the outdoor shower is stunning, set in a small garden with bamboos and orchids). All have an outside balcony with chairs and a hammock and the best rooms have Jacuzzis on the balcony and views to the river.

The property itself is a large expanse of land with a river running at the bottom of it and you almost need a map to navigate around it.  The spa and butterfly farm are at the northern end of the property and the newly added 70 metre swimming pool, complete with small waterfall is in the middle.  The restaurant serves excellent food and the list of on property activities range from small walking trails to canoeing down the river to hiring mountain bikes.
