Patios de Cafayate

Salta & the north west

Patios de Cafayate is one of the most memorable places to stay in northern Argentina.  The hotel has courtyards, water fountains benches nestled under small trees and superb grounds, which make it a stunning place just to walk around.  The swimming pool is a dramatic highlight. Surrounded by lounge chairs, it has panoramic views of the neighbouring mountains with the vineyards as a backdrop. Nothing is too much for this Starwood owned hotel and when the weather is nice, eating al fresco is recommended

THE STYLE

THE DETAIL

Located a five minute bike ride from the centre of town, this impressive boutique hotel opened in late 2005, having previously been a vineyard since 1892 and the new additions seem to blend in seamlessly. The lounge is a filled with historic items and is surrounded by heavy wood colonial furniture an open fireplace and rust–coloured floor tiles giving it a warm welcoming feeling

Most of the 26 guest rooms and suites are located in the original buildings, which have been completely restored. Every room is uniquely decorated with antique furniture, artisan carpets, ceramic floors, and penny royal baskets.

There are 15 Garden View rooms each of which has direct access to the patios and corridors, which connect the entire house. The 11 vineyard rooms have beautiful views of the vineyards and the surrounding hills. Three Vineyard View suites on the first floor provide complete views of the vineyards and the forest of carob trees, most of which are more than 200 years old. Each suite also has a double Jacuzzi in its bathroom.

The spacious and innovative spa is far more extensive than you would expect for a hotel of this size. Like many in Argentina it touts a wide range of "vinotherapy" treatments, from massages and exfoliations with grapes to wine baths with Cabernet. Here the connection is visual as well though, as you can gaze out a glass wall at the vineyards while your body soaks in water and wine.
