Hopkins
Hopkins is a small Garifuna fishing village of around 1000 villagers and is considered by many to be the cultural centre of the Garifuna population in Belize. Situated on the Caribbean coast it has sandy beaches with gently swaying coconut palms and is a great base from which to enjoy the longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere offering some of the best scuba diving and snorkelling.
In addition to the barrier reef, Belize is blessed with extensive saltwater flats and mangrove islands; and there is nowhere in the Caribbean that offers a greater variety of sport fishing species like permit, bonefish, tarpon, snook, jack, barracuda, bonito, mutton snapper, tuna, cobia, Dorado and even sailfish.
Inland, it is surrounded by the Maya Mountains and the Cockscomb Range and you can access ancient Mayan ruins, canoe or kayak up jungle rivers or go birding in the rainforest. THINGS TO SEE AND DO
