Playa VIK: Our View

Playa Vik is the newest property in the chic little fishing village of Jose Ignacio, and is the sister property of Estancia Vik.  Located approximately 12 miles northeast of Punta del Este. It has a majestic setting, perched on a small hill, with sweeping views across the Atlantic Ocean and the stunning Playa Mansa below, which has a sunset like no other in the country. This beach front property has six casitas and a central building which houses a further four suites, an underground playroom, spa and wine cellar, as well as a stunning, elevated infinity pool.  This is the place to stay.

Playa VIK: The Detail

This modern, beautifully designed hotel is home to six casitas and four suites.  The casitas contain a series of guest suites with oversized living and sleeping areas with walls of sliding glass that conceal private balconies and wooden decks overlooking the ocean. Each bathroom contains wooden canoe-shaped bathtubs that were custom made by Uruguayan boat builders.

There is an outdoor fire pit by the beach, an ideal place to sit around during the cooler evenings as well as a vast wine cellar, a library, a games room and a small spa as well as an infinity swimming pool, which juts over the beach and at night sparkles with tiny lights in the bottom like a reflection of the night sky overhead.

The main restaurant is refreshingly low-key. For casual meals, the nightly barbeque is fantastic, with fresh seafood along with sides of fresh vegetables and homemade breads. Inside, the Parillero dining room is slightly more formal and focuses on Uruguayan beef dishes and the country’s famed wines.
