Colca Lodge: The DetailThe Colca Lodge is at an altitude of 3250 metres above sea level. The climate of the Colca Valley is dry and sunny most of the year, with daytime temperatures between 18 and 21 degrees Celsius. Nights are cold and in winter - June to August - nocturnal temperatures can be as low as minus 8 degrees Celsius. The Colca lodge is a wonderful mixture of materials, with walls of stone and adobe, and roofs of eucalyptus trunks covered with thatch, the materials commonly used in Colca. Comfort is there first priority. The layout of the buildings are almost as intriguing as the surrounding landscape. Cheerful yet simple rooms and friendly service make the Colca Lodge, (while not an ‘international standard’ hotel), the best option in the Colca Valley. As well as offering excellent Condor viewing opportunities nearby, the lodge is an ideal base for active options, such as hikes or horse rides, or exploring this lesser visited part of Peru Walking from the reception hall to the drawing room and bar, there are magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. The dining room, a spacious pyramidal structure, leads onto a circular terrace with superb views of the valley, cliffs, river, and crops on the terraces that surround the lodge Within the lodge are; massage rooms, Jacuzzis, large relaxing pool and all with views of the river and the terraces. The highlight though is the hot pools down by the river, where the sound of the river, and the stars are a great place to have a beer at the end of the day. Colca Lodge has been able to combine its attractive rustic style with total comfort without damaging the surrounding environment, making it ideal for both a retreat to relax or as a strategic base to explore the region. This is probably the best option in the Colca Valle with regards location and experience. You may also likeLima
