Rio Indio Lodge: The Detail

Making the journey by boat down the Rio San Juan to the lodge, you get a true sense of the wonderful isolation of the setting. It is a six hour trip and as you get closer to the mouth of the river and the Caribbean sea, there is uninterrupted and dense tropical rainforest as far as the eye can see.

The main building houses an outstanding restaurant where you can eat inside or on the open decks. Covered wooden walkways on stilts link this to the 27 rooms, all of which are set on the edges of the lagoon with a water view. The rooms are extremely spacious with high ceilings, king beds and screened decks with rocking chairs. All have fans and most have air-con.

If you wish to relax there is a beautiful and large pool which overlooks the lagoon. The Rio San Juan is fantastic for sports fishing with Tarpon and Tilapia all found in large numbers here.
