HACIENDA SANTA ROSA

Uxmal

Hacienda Santa Rosa: Our View

This 19thcentury Hacienda is without doubt one of the most intimate and elegant guest properties we have viewed. It was owned by a family with Spanish heritage who had a penchant for French interior styling – hence most of the decorative elements such as the floor tiles and furniture were of French origin. When the restoration began in 1998, it was decided it was important to remain true to the vision they had. Hence now all the painted borders in the main building have been beautifully restored and are now similar to how they would have been in the Hacienda’s heyday as a working henequen factory.

Hacienda Santa Rosa: The Detail

There are just 11 guest rooms here – which sometimes gives you the feeling that you are staying in a grand mansion rather than a hotel. All the rooms have high ceilings, the original floor tiles, king beds and luxuriously big bathrooms. There is also TV, i-pod docking station, and air con.

The junior suites have a private terrace with hammocks and a pool. And for those who want only the best – there is the Casa Maya, an original Hacienda dwelling which is more secluded and comes complete with your own swinging hammock four poster and dressing room.

The large pool is stunning - surrounded by beautiful tropical gardens it is almost impossible to believe that this used to be in fact the original factory reservoir! There is a botanical garden where there are over 200 types of indigenous herbs and spices.

The restaurant offers exquisite local and international cuisine – you can dine indoors under the veranda cooled by the breeze, or al fresco.

It is ideally situated for exploring the Mayan ruins of Uxmal, being just an hours drive away. There are also several interesting villages nearby where you can see traditional local life unfold. If you plan to be out for the whole day, Santa Rosa can organise a picnic for you.
