Panza Verde: The DetailEach room has a private balcony and en-suite facilities and is adorned with wooden carvings and soft furnishings. The wooden structure of the hotel only adds to the atmosphere within it, but as with all places it is the small things that make the difference. There are numerous little sitting areas, each of which has a small fireplace in, along with a small swimming pool, which is probably more for aesthetic purposes rather than practical. Situated just outside of the town of Panajachel, this 60 room hotel has an excellent location on the edge of the lake. The hotel has some of the best gardens in the area, so much so that they charge a small amount for people not staying in the hotel

Situated inside the Tikal national park, this is the most convenient option for exploring the ancient Mayan city of Tikal - it is just twenty minutes walk from the centre of the ruins. This means that you can spend the whole day enjoying Tikal

On the far side of the lake, accessible by boat is the small town of Santiago. Opposite the town, a short 2 minute boat ride away is the tranquil hotel Bambu. It has large grounds and the rooms are spread throughout at the centre of which is the swimming pool
