NITUN LODGE

Nitun Lodge: Our ViewSituated on the northern shores of Lake Peten, this is more of a jungle retreat than a hotel. Nitun is run by the owner, Lorena, who after 16 years still has the enthusiasm of someone that has just started. The lodge has 4 casitas which are spread out over the banks of the lake. Nitun Lodge: The DetailThe brick walls and thatch roof give a traditional feel about the place. Each has a large patio, en-suite facilities and either king size beds or two queen size beds. The communal areas are all made from local wood and the open plan kitchen gives a reassuring touch that food is prepared correctly. The upstairs section has a hammock and a comfortable sitting area along with a small bar. Any additional activities can be arranged with Lorena, though this is definitely a place to relax, swim in the lake and if you are really feeling energetic, then the kayak is an ideal way to get out and see the lake. For us, the attraction of Villa Maya is its communal areas and location. Situated on the edge of the lake approximately 20 minutes drive from the busy town of Flores, makes it feel like more of a hide away. The open plan of the reception, bar and restaurant
Livingston and the Rio Dulce
The hotels location is its biggest selling point, being on the banks of both the Rio Dulce and the Caribbean Sea and as such it has superb views across the water. It would be quite easy here to lose a day watching the boat traffic pass
Antigua
This small hotel is well positioned close to the centre of town. The small entrance leads you through a small water fountain and into the hotel, which has been beautifully decorated with soft furnishings and local art
