La Lancha: Our View

This is one of three Francis Ford Coppala properties, of which La Lancha was the first.  Situated on the northern side of the lake and nestled within the surrounding jungle, this is undoubtedly the best option in the area, despite its distance from the Mayan ruins of Tikal.

Our Rating

  • Lovely casitas with balconies and good amenities
  • The rainforest casitas are a little small
  • Outstanding food in an atmospheric setting
  • Swimming pool surrounded by a sitting area

La Lancha: The Detail

The dining and bar areas are simply decorated with Mayan masks, bookshelves made from local canoes and bamboo chairs.  The swimming pool has a superb view across the lake and the option of using their shell phone system to call for drinks to be delivered anywhere within the property.

La Lancha has 10 rooms - two types; rainforest casita and lake view casita.  The 6 rainforest rooms are small and cosy, each with a queen size bed and en-suite facilities.  The 4 lake view casitas are the rooms we would recommend as they are larger, have a sofa, twin doors that open onto your balcony and of course, a view of the lake.

This is undoubtedly the best option around Lake Atitlan. With its pastel coloured walls and colonial décor it fits in beautifully with its surroundings.  The hotel as a whole is littered with Mayan carvings and some colourful textiles

Situated on arguably one of the most sought after stretches of Ambergis coastline, is Mata Chica. Facing the translucent waters of the Caribbean, resting in your hammock outside your brightly painted cabana, you know that it’s going to be difficult to beat
