El Convento: The DetailThe 19 rooms, split into three categories; junior suite, suite and master suite are delightful. All have their own fireplace, large bathrooms with shower and baths and the suite and master suites have a Jacuzzi on the private patios outside each room. All have modern facilities, WIFI, ipod docking system and wide screen TV. The dark wooden floors, large armchairs and soft lighting makes this one of the best options in town. The thin swimming pool lies on one side with the rooms on the other and the rooftop terrace has several sitting areas lined with cushions and are situated under the grand tree that site in the middle. This is undoubtedly the best option around Lake Atitlan. With its pastel coloured walls and colonial décor it fits in beautifully with its surroundings. The hotel as a whole is littered with Mayan carvings and some colourful textiles
The Cayo District
Unquestionably the best lodge option in the region. Situated a 30 minute drive outside of the town, the lodge has access to all the main attractions in the area, yet is pleasingly far enough away from it all to feel like you are in the middle of the jungle.
Tikal
This is one of three Francis Ford Coppala properties, of which La Lancha was the first. Situated on the northern side of the lake and nestled within the surrounding jungle, this is undoubtedly the best option in the area
