Argentina Families
A family holiday in Argentina is for those who want a bit of adventure. The Andes Mountain range runs the length of the country and at the base you will find; glaciers, lakes and white water rivers. Here you can go; kayaking across lakes, raft the rivers, walk over glaciers and go horse riding for days. All of this can also be combined with the impressive Iguazu falls making Argentina a family holiday to remember.
For those that love horse riding, this is probably the best country in the world to do it. Each estancia has a range of horses to suit your age and riding standard, whether you are a novice that has never ridden or an expert. The estancias also gives you the opportunity to take part in the life of a ranch and your kids will be able to do everything from milking cows to picking wild berries.
Bariloche is situated on the foothills of the Andes and on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi making it one of the most picturesque places in Argentina. The nearby national park of Nahuel Huapi is the oldest in the country and has some of the most diverse biospheres in the area as well an abundance of wildlife. The main reason for coming to Cordoba is the small collection of rolling hills to north – the Sierras Chicas. These low lying mountains have a similar history to that of the Pampas and as such the area has numerous estancias all of which are a perfect base for horse riding, walking, mountain biking, or just relaxing in the cooler temperatures that this area is known for.
The northwest is a relatively unknown region of Argentina and Salta is the centre from which to explore this spectacularly varied region. The multi-coloured valleys and canyons of Calchaques twist and turn down to Cafayate from where you can visit the ancient pre-Inca ruins of Quilmes, or walk through narrow canyons to hidden waterfalls, or, sample wine from the many vineyards in the area. The Iguazu Falls are a collection of 280 waterfalls plunging into a 3 km long gorge situated on the borders of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. Without doubt they are the best falls in the world. They are so good because unlike other major waterfalls, there are a variety of activities surrounding them.
The small fishing village of Jose Ignacio is the new place to go for a beach holiday in Uruguay. Punta del Este has grown quickly, but thankfully the sleepy little town of Jose Ignacio has preserved its small town atmosphere A family holiday in Argentina is to mix wild scenery with an active day there are numerous walking trails to be found in the foothills as well as kayaking across lakes with towering snow-capped Andean peaks above. For those old enough there is also the opportunity to trek across a glacier, which will leave you in awe of your surroundings
Best for familiesFrom 170 unspoiled hectares of farm land, El Colibri is an authentic example of the Argentinean campo where the wild forest has been transformed into a natural park and the rest of the grounds are looked after like a private garden.
Being at Iguazu means being surrounded by the rainforest and La Aldea is one of the few places where you can achieve this and still be close enough to the falls. Being built of local wood it has wonderfully rustic and simple feel
The lodge is beautifully designed, combining great comfort and contact with nature: huge windows, roaring fires, lovely quiet spots to sit and meditate; the suites even have baths with views of the stars.
