Ecuadorian Amazon

Known as El Oriente, the Ecuadorian Amazon is a true rainforest experience. Situated a short distance away from Quito, you have the possibility of spotting giant armadillos, manatees, anacondas, fresh water dolphins and countless monkeys.
With over 1,200 species of bird, numerous walking trails, medicinal trails, indigenous encounters, and piranha fishing, there is an activity to suit most tastes. Local guides accompany all excursions.

Comfortable eco-lodges offer all the usual amenities but with a minimum impact on the environment. The lodges are situated around lagoons or on the edge of the river, affording superb views across the Amazon.

THINGS TO SEE AND DO

Each of the lodges in the Amazon offers a range of activities and amenities.  Please therefore use the below as guideline for what will be done at each lodge.

Birdwatching. Of the incredible 1600 bird species registered in Ecuador, 587 (37%) have been seen in this region. That's almost 7% of the species found in the entire world!

Walking tours.  There are various trails running through the jungle, however due to the density of the foliage do not expect to see larger mammals.  This is for the experience of the rainforest and the smaller creatures that make the ecosystem work.

The Parrot lick. This an exposed clay riverbank where brightly coloured parrots of several different species gather in the early morning. In ideal conditions (sunny and dry) hundreds of parrots will perch on and eat the exposed clay in a spectacular show of sound and colour!

Canoe tours. This is an ideal way to see wildlife as you are a distance away from the dense canopy and may get a glimpse of mammals coming to the water’s edge to drink.
