Nicuesa Lodge: Our View

Playa Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge is a true eco retreat in every sense. When the New York owners constructed the lodge, they made supreme efforts to ensure that the natural surroundings weren’t compromised. Not one tree was felled, instead they used wood from trees which had fallen naturally, which means that the main house and cabins are made from a large variety of hard woods which gives it a handsome yet rustic feel.

Nicuesa Lodge: The Detail

The cabins are set individually and surrounded by trees and flowers. They are well designed to enable maximum comfort with queen beds, excellent mosquito nets and fans. When you push back the floor to ceiling shuttered doors which cover an entire wall – you feel like you are inviting the rainforest in! Its stunning. There is a large bathroom with an open air shower.

The atmosphere here is very welcoming and all the staff are introduced to you by name. And guests eat with everyone ‘family style’ on an elegant, long table upstairs in the main house which encourages you to get to know each other. The menu here is great – they serve up healthy and tasty food.

They recycle, they grow their own produce in their organic fruit, vegetable and herb garden, and they have been working with the government to make the Golfo Dulce a protected area.

There is so much to do here – you can take a yoga class on the open air deck to the sound of the waves, kayak along the coast, hike up the trails, do an ‘edible food’ tour and cook up some special local recipes.
