Trancoso
Trancoso was put on the map a few years ago now when a string of film starts took their holidays here. Trancoso is a place which is surrounded by untouched tropical forests with turquoise bays and white sand beaches, making a perfect get away destination.
Amidst the many rich and famous people that live in or visit the town, Trancoso continues to retain its rustic charm, with its extensive pristine beaches, exuberant nature and friendliness of the locals. It offers a wonderfully warm and sunny destination for its diversified visitors from Brazil and abroad, a place to slow down and relax. Services range from modest and economical accommodations and meals to the most luxurious and sophisticated.
Trancoso is a small town in the heart of Bahia. It was the landing point of the Portuguese explorer, Pedro Alvares Cabral in Brazil, on April 21st, 1500. It was founded by the Jesuits priests, on 1583, with the name of Saint John Baptist of the Indians. The town is in a rectangular shape, with houses in the original style. It is famous for its beaches, such as Praia dos Nativos, Praia dos Coqueiros and Praia do Espelho. THINGS TO SEE AND DO
Below is a list of things that can be seen and done in the area, all of which can be arranged locally, or with us prior to departure.
The main square. Trancoso’s grassy square is situated on the top of a cliff overlooking the ocean has many historical sites plus many small stores with local arts and crafts and superb dining. At night the entire Quadrado is lit by torch and candlelight and locals and travellers alike can be found strolling through the many local stores and dining in the many excellent restaurants of the area. Horse riding. The surrounding beaches are long and flat making them an ideal place to ride along the beach. Full or half day rides are available along with a range of horses for varying standards. BEACHES
Taipe Beach. 5km north of Trancoso, is one the places where sea turtles lay their eggs and where you can find the famous “Lagoa Azul”. Half-way between Arraial and Trancoso this lesser visited natural reservation has some wonderful beaches, which are very much as the Portuguese found them.
Nativos beach. Right at the north of the village of Trancoso with many beach side bars, music and Brazilian beach life. Rio do Barr beach. 4km north of Trancoso with easy access, beach side bars and good local food. Just a few kilometres from Trancoso are the cliffs, mangroves and a river building with a nice view. Coqueiros Beach. 1km south from the Trancoso River the beach has some small beach bars as well as kayaks and horses. Espelho beach. This is one of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil, the Praia do Espelho is as a matter of fact an ecological paradise with calm waters, reefs and natural pools, white sand and coconut groves. Visited by few the Praia dos Coqueiros gives a feel of peace even though there is a charming and very efficient infrastructure.

Pousada Etnia is one of our favourites in Trancoso, despite it not being on the beach. The rooms are spread out across the grounds so privacy is guaranteed and the level of service from the staff is extremely high.
Trancoso
Although it does not have the style of other hotels along this coastline it does have a rustic and homely feel to it. The master suites are superb and the swimming pools overlooking the ocean
