Jericoacoara

Jericoacoara has more than one reason to be considered a paradise. The place is a set of several different sceneries, placed together in a very beautiful and harmonic combination, which should not only be seen, but be felt. The intense contact with nature and the sensation of freedom that the place transmits is palpable.  Everywhere and every place seems so wide and spacious, this is a place which will forever live in your memories.
Jericoacoara is a beach located in the northeast of Brazil, close to the equator in the state of Ceará. It was, until about 15 years ago, an isolated fishing village, without any contact with modern civilization. There were no roads, no electricity, no phones, no TV’s, no newspapers, and money was something almost useless, since deals were based on trading fish for goods.

It is a hard place to get to as the nearest airport is a 5 hour 4x4 drive away, but it is certainly worth it.  Here you can go on long beach walks, horseback riding, windsurf or sand boarding. There are countless things to see and do, that sometimes it is hard to believe that they can be so different and yet be so close to each other.

Please be advised that Jericoacoara does not have any Banks or ATM machines to get cash. It is therefore recommended that you get enough cash in Fortaleza city for tours, restaurants and any extra services you may need

THINGS TO SEE AND DO

Below is a list of things that can be seen and done in the area, all of which can be arranged locally, or with us prior to departure.

Tatajuba. We take you out for a whole day trip along the beach by dune buggy.  Driving along the beach, mangroves and crossing over a river by raft you arrive at the mystical sand buried village of old Tatajuba which was totally covered by a wandering dune.  The neighbouring dunes are hemmed by rainwater ponds and you may test your skills on a sand board. Bring your swimming trunks as you will be able to eat excellent fish in a local beach restaurant with your feet in the water.

Mangue Seco. Near Jericoacoara the dry mangroves are worth a photo stop. Take a canoe along the eco-protected river and see herds of sea horses.  You should also try the freshly caught crab offered in rustic stalls along the water. This half-day trip can be either undertaken on horse, quad or buggy.
Blue Lagoon. 12 km away you have an excellent opportunity to do sightseeing by sailboat, kite surf, kayak or swim in crystalline fresh waters and enjoy delicious regional sea food on the white sands of the beach. Half day or full day trips available.

Paradise Lagoon.  A little further than the Blue Lagoon you will find this enchanting lake, surrounded by lots of regional restaurants, all with their private beach.
