Buzios - The coast around RioBuzios is located 190km to the east of Rio de Janeiro, lying on a peninsular with over 25 beaches, making this an ideal destination to relax after the buzz of Rio. Brigitte Bardot 'discovered' Buzios in 1964, when it was little more than a sleepy fishing village, Nowadays it comprises of low rise pousadas and lodges, most of which overlook the ocean and surrounding bays, giving a good variety of accommodation options. Not only are the beaches varied but the small town boasts a wide range of diverse restaurants and bars, all of which are within walking of distance of any place you stay. The 25 beaches vary dramatically and sea conditions depend on which part of the peninsular you are on. Some can only be reached by walking over the small hills that characterise the peninsular, allowing you to find your own private beach for the day. Others can only be reached by renting a buggy for the day and have restaurants and bars lining the beach whilst others are wide, wind swept beaches ideal for kite boarding and windsurfing. THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN BUZIOSBelow are some of the best beaches which we recommend visiting. It is good idea to rent a ‘bugre’ (buggy) for the day to explore some of the more remote beaches and corners of the Peninsular. Caravelas: This is a small beach, approximately 100 yards long, located next to a small hotel offering all amenities, with a backdrop of Atlantic rainforest. Tucuns Beach: Located on the outskirts of town, this 2 ˝ km beach has some of the best surf on the peninsular and also attracts kite boarders and wind surfers due to its wide soft sand. Ferradura: Beautifully calm waters surround this beach, which is lined with small restaurants. The beach also offers boat rides, kayaks, paddle boats and speed boats for wake boarding. Brava Beach: Brava is on the open sea and has some strong waves, surrounded by steep rock bluffs covered in vines and bushes. It has over 500 metres of dark, fine sand and still retains a wild beauty. Olho de Boi: This small beach is only accessible via a steep trail starting from Brava beach. The beach lies at the end of a narrow inlet of water protected on either side by outcrops of rock. Praia dos Amores: Literally translated it means the beach of love. To get to here you must walk from town across the Canto beach – a narrow golden sand beach lined with calm waters. At the end you have to scramble over the rocks to the secluded amores beach. This small beach has shallow water is an ideal place to watch the sunset from.
