Angra Dos Reis

Angra do Reis, also known as ‘The Bay of Kings’ is one of Brazil’s most dazzling and breath taking destinations. Composed of 365 islands and over 2,000 beaches, Angra dos Reis is the tropical vacation destination of travellers' fantasies. The city’s centre is reminiscent of smaller colonial cities and boasts amazing historical monuments, churches and architecture.
Ilha Grande, the largest island of the 365 and serves as the main attraction and was used as the colonial centre for pirates who originally settled there. Ocean tours and activities are widely available and provide the opportunity to visit the different islands and beaches as well as enjoy the exclusivity of their sandy shores.

THINGS TO SEE AND DO

Below is a list of things that can be seen and done in the area, all of which can be arranged locally, or with us prior to departure.

Cataguzes Island. The Cataguazes Island is one of the most beautiful islands of Angra dos Reis. Surrounded by white sands, a combination of crystal clear waters and the emerald green from The Sea, the island is full of "Pitanga" trees.. During weekends and summer time it’s a crowded place but it is really peaceful place to go during the week.

Estrada do Contorno. Islands and sight-seeing boats are surely what first comes into people’s head whenever one talks of Angra dos Reis. Ironically, one of the most pleasant tours in the region does not demand boats and, up to a certain point, not even cars. Many of the most beautiful beaches may be found along the Estrada do Contorno coastline.
Sao Jao Island. These are two little islands, one of them full of coconut trees and located between The Gipoia and The Botinas Islands. It’s a good fishing spot. It is also good for scuba diving because the water is very clear.

Gipoia Island. Gipoia Island is very versatile. There are beaches to all tastes: tranquil ones, nice churches, and beaches for surfers, desert and crowded, making it a diverse day out.

Paqueta Island. Paqueta Island is a traditional point at The "Ilha Grande". There is a typical snack bar where you can taste delicious seafood. Usually the fishermen own the seafood bar so you can eat it really fresh. You can find calm or agitated water depending in which side of The Island you decide to stay. Can get crowded during the summer time

Botinas Islands. Also known as the sisters islands or twin islands because of the resemblance between them depending on your angle of view. The Botinas are the spot in the whole Angra Bay that has the clearest and cleanest waters
Recommended lodges in this area:

Angra
This is a lovely little gem of a property where you can escape the hustle and bustle of Rio and somewhere quieter than Buzios if you really want to get away from it all. The decking area overlooking the ocean
Paraty
A charming little Pousada located above the town of Picinguaba.  This small hotel (10 rooms) is simple and charming.  Rooms are fairly small with no air-conditioning, but all have ocean views.
Rio de Janeiro
This boutique, Philippe Starck designed hotel is a gem.  The rooftop pool is one of the best places to have your evening drinks and watch the sun set on Rio, whilst the restaurant is probably the best in the city.
