The Caribbean coast line which stretches down from the Tulum ruins down to Chetumal has some of the widest, most beautiful Mexican beaches on the Yucatan peninsula. It also has a very idiosyncratic feel – a kind of hippy ish, rustic charm, which we loved. Lodging options are éndless.. but admittedly a mixed bag. However if you search, you can find some truely chic little hideaways, as we did.
Visiting the majestic ruined city of Tulum, set high up on the cliffs, overlooking the sea is well worth tearing yourself away from the hammock for. Plus its just a short drive away so makes for a lovely little daytrip.
We stayed at the Esmeralda and Casa Magna
