Mountain Pine Ridge

The flora, wildlife and birding in the Maya mountains are like no place on earth. The Mountain Pine Ridge reserve is home to various large mammals, including Puma, Jaguars, Ocelots, White-nosed Coatis, and Baird's Tapirs. Fantastic for birders too; native species of bird include the Eastern Bluebird, Stygian Owl, King Vulture, Blue-crowned Motmot and Red-lored Parrot.
Steeped in Mayan history, relics have been found throughout the region, however it is the remains of the sacred city of Caracol set in lush rainforest which are the main attraction.

The area is also an absolute paradise for walkers with dozens of marked trails curling up and around the many waterfalls, rivers and streams. For pure drama… the drop at Big Rock Falls on the Privassion Creek and Hidden Valley Falls is like no other with lemon bright orchids adorning the granite rocks along the waters edge.
