Mata Chica: The Detail

There are 14 individual thatched cabanas most which have a sea view. The elegant mahogany wooden doors and shutters open onto the sandy beach outside and the rooms are light and breezy, with high ceilings.  The cabanas are extremely spacious with sitting areas and queen or king size beds.  Each has en-suite facilities with air conditioning and ceiling fans, though leaving the mosquito covered shutters open and letting the sea breeze cool your room is an excellent alternative!

The resort offers complimentary snorkelling gear, kayaks and there are also small sailing boats for rental.  Their restaurant is renowned across the island and people travel here in the evening simply for the exquisite dining experience, which is first class.  Overall, this is a superb option.

The Cayo District
Unquestionably the best lodge option in the region.  Situated a 30 minute drive outside of the town, the lodge has access to all the main attractions in the area, yet is pleasingly far enough away from it all to feel like you are in the middle of the jungle.
Placencia
The Francis Ford Coppola owned Turtle Inn is the most chi-chi place to stay on the Peninsula. Balinese in style it is opulent yet understated – a very difficult thing to achieve. Decorated with Balinese hand crafted artefacts
Mountain Pine Ridge
Francis Ford Coppola’s lodge in Mountain Pine ridge was discovered by the man himself. The abandoned wooden lodge which he found is set back on the rocky slopes of the Privaisson River. Winding paths lead you down to numerous waterfalls and pools which are ideal for swimming.
