MACHACA HILL
Toledo
Machaca Hill: Our ViewFrom all the lodges we have visited in Belize and for many reasons, this stands out above all. The mangers of Machaca Lodge have had extensive experience with running lodges in Africa and they are, in short, trying and succeeding to replicate that ‘African’ felling over here. Machaca Hill: Fast Facts
Machaca Hill: The DetailThe lodge is situated in one of the less visited corners of Belize – the Toledo District in the south of the country and as such is surrounded by a superb and untouched array of ecosystems. The activities offered are as varied as they are numerous and include; bird watching, walking trails, 4x4 adventures, Mayan ruins, river trips, caving and, due its location next to the sea, snorkelling trips to the nearby cayes. They have 12 individual cabanas, each of which looks out across the jungle, are spacious, beautifully decorated and private. The rooms have 2 queen size beds in a screened sitting area inside the room overlooking the forest and a superbly large bathroom with a shower area with his and her shower heads and twin basins. The hotel has a swimming pool with sitting area and an outdoor fireplace with chairs, very reminiscent of Africa. The hotel also has a new spa, which is outstanding and offers every type of therapy you can think of! The upstairs restaurant serves impeccable food – the chef was brought over from a first class camp in Botswana! The highlight is the ‘tram’ which runs up and down the hillside to the river below and nothing is quite as beautiful as taking this after dinner, through the jungle, to the river below to enjoy your nightcap. Machaca Lodge has some serious plans, which should come into operation shortly and include; a jungle camp, where you can camp in a tent in the middle of the jungle for the night and where a table and chairs are set up and dinner is served. They also plan on building upscale cabanas on a private island off the nearby coastline as an extension to your stay in Machaca. You may also likeThe Cayes
