Uruguay Beaches

Uruguay is so small and still relatively unknown that coming here is to get away from it all.  The coastline is home to long, wide sandy beaches with numerous activities available from surfing to horse riding along the beach. There probably isn’t quite enough to make it a destination unto itself, but due to its close proximity to Argentina and the ease with which you can get here, it makes an ideal end to any visit in Argentina.
Uruguay’s beaches are still lovely in parts, but the main hotspots are over-developed and quite ruined by mass-market tourism. It is still possible to find secluded enclaves, however, and there are some very exclusive, well hidden lodges dotted discreetly along the coast. Best of all is the area to the east of Punta Del Este and the small fishing village of Jose Ignacio. Here you will find a small range of hotels nestled around the small peninsula which it tipped by the trade mark lighthouse.

The small fishing village of Jose Ignacio is the new place to go for a beach holiday in Uruguay. Punta del Este has grown quickly, but thankfully the sleepy little town of Jose Ignacio has preserved its small town atmosphere
