Peninsula Valdez Marine ParkA haven for marine life, the ocean around this desert like peninsular is home to the Southern Right Whale (July-Dec) when it visits the coastline to breed and the Orca Whale (Jan-March), whilst Sea Lions and Elephant Seals can be seen all year round. Punta Tombo penguin colonyThe Penguin colony of Punta Tombo, 180km away, is home to over one million penguins, making it the largest in the world. The population of Trelew and the surrounding towns are of welsh decent and still maintain the way of life of their forefathers. The peninsular is best combined as part of an itinerary with Patagonia. Punta Tombo penguin colony. Full day. Situated on the Atlantic coast, the area becomes a breeding and moulting ground for the Magellanic penguins during the warmer months of September to April. There can be anywhere between 3 and 5 million penguins here at any one time, making it the largest in the world. In the afternoon you visit the Welsh town of Gaiman, that still preserves its heritage and where you can still enjoy the famous welsh tea. Peninsular Valdes. Full day. Peninsular Valdes is rich in typical Patagonian flora and fauna, where sea elephants can be admired. This huge animal weighs between one to three tons, and measures up to 6 metres. Sea lions and whales can also be seen here. The drive takes you to Puerto Piramides, a beach dominated by cliffs rich in fossils and the opportunity to embark on any whale watching. You can visit the nearby sea lion nesting ground situated on a flat rocky outcrop, jutting out into the sea, and visit Punta Delgada with its old lighthouse, Punta Norte and the Bird's Island where a large quantity of gulls, cormorants and herons can be admired. During the day the Salina Grande can also be seen with its natural 42-metre depression, one of the deepest in the world.
