Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, known as the ‘Paris of South America’ is a fascinating, colourful city with a European feel and a personality of its own. Its districts range from the bohemian La Boca, an artistic district with colourful late colonial buildings, the rejuvenated and hip Palermo Soho with all the new boutique hotels and bars, to the more fashionable Recoleta district with botanical and Japanese gardens and smart cafes ideal for watching life go by.
The tango atmosphere can still be felt throughout the city and its courtyards and plazas are alive with performers, both young and old, dancing in a world of their own. If all of this gets too much, just a short trip away is the Tigre Delta, a maze of waterways and colonial mansions and a place to escape the city.

TO SEE AND DO

Below are some of the attractions that Buenos Aires has to offer, though we can tailor any itinerary to suit your interests.

City tour. ½ day. A tour taking in the highlights of Buenos Aires, including; the Government house, Colon theatre and the famous opera house. You also have the opportunity to visit the districts of San Telmo and Recoleta along with Palmero Park with its blossoming jacaranda trees.

Tango show. Apart from viewing the tango in one of the many courtyards you also have the chance to take in a more official show, which includes the porteno love songs and its intricate steps.

Tigre Delta. Full day. The delta is a maze of waterways and channels on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. The day is spent exploring the canals by boat stopping off in the small settlements that line the banks of these waters.

Colonia. Full day. This world heritage city is situated one hour away by boat on the coast of Uruguay. With colonial architecture and narrow cobbled streets the city is best explored on foot.

Gaucho festival. Full day. The day is spent visiting one of the traditional estancias (farms) on the Pampas where you can enjoy a superb traditional barbeque – parrillado, as it’s known, accompanied by traditional folklore dancing and music. The gauchos (cowboys) perform the carrera de sortija where two teams gallop under a wooden arch and try to place a ring on a small pin.

You also have the option of spending a night on an estancia and enjoy the run of the grounds.

When we first visited the Faena hotel we knew we were experiencing something completely different.  Firstly there is no reception, each guest is assigned a ‘manager’ that looks after them for their stay
